Shuffle Tracking at the Blackjack Table

Shuffle-tracking is the skill of tracking certain cards during the shuffling process, in order to manipulate them to your benefit during the game. The idea of shuffle tracking emerged as a result of mathematic research on card shuffling, together with computer simulated card shuffles.

Merely shuffling the cards does not necessarily indicate that they are randomly distributed. In order to really guarantee that a deck is randomized, the deck of cards has to be shuffled anywhere from twenty to thirty times.

For a reasonably good shuffle, separate the deck into two piles of 26 cards each and shuffle them at least 3 times. This permits the cards to be adequately mixed together and randomly ordered.

A poor shuffle will not totally integrate the cards entirely. One example of bad shuffling is known as the Unbalanced Shuffle. When performing an unbalanced shuffle, the dealer separates the deck into two uneven piles. For instance, when you play two blackjack hands against the dealer and the final 10 cards in the deck are handed out, if the outcome of both hands were lost to the dealer, it was probably because of the high proportion of low-value cards remaining in the deck. Would you have been counting, you would have wagered a low bet, for the deck was not in your favor. Now the dealer shuffles the cards, and when he does so, he parts the deck into two stacks, one with 31 cards and the other with 21 cards.

Should the dealer shuffle each deck from the bottom up, the first ten cards of the bigger pile stay intact and do not get mixed up with the other cards, remaining in their original order. You will then be asked to cut the deck. If you decide not to do so, the 10 cards that were dealt in the last hand will be given to you as your first two hands.

This will lead to you having the same cards you had in the previous hand, and thus you'll lose both rounds. But, if you split the deck from the end of the 10 cards, you may enhance your chances of winning. These 10 cards will be put at the bottom of the deck. When the dealer shuffles up early on in the game, you will probably pass them up completely. Take it from us at bj-21.com: Had you kept count, you would have known that the deck would be beneficial during the initial 3-4 hands, since the first cards would have had more ten-value cards. Raise your bet with this knowledge in mind to gain the most winnings.

There are dealers who will mistakenly cut the deck into uneven piles. On the other hand, they are frequently obligated to separate the deck into uneven piles, in accordance with house rules. This is known as the House Shuffle, which occurs when the casino trains a dealer to shuffle using a certain technique. With time, the casino benefits, for many players will not throw out their poor clumps of cards. While playing blackjack at the casino, pay attention to how the cards are shuffled; most people don't.

Another shuffling technique is known as the "Zone Shuffle." The Zone Shuffle is common with shoe games and is one of the most popular shuffling techniques used. The Zone Shuffle is done by separating the shoe into 4 or 8 heaps, varying according to the amount of decks used in the shoe. A set number of cards are carefully chosen from each heap, with every half deck being shuffled in an irregular manner.

This prevents the piles from being truly mixed and thus, the cards are regrouped in more or less their original location in the shoe. When the dealer wins 30 hands and you only 10, know that results like these will be your fate until you either run out of money or the cards are shuffled well enough so no more biases exist.

What happens when the roles are reversed, with the players winning the majority of hands? If the dealer has been keeping track of how many hands both parties have won throughout the game, he will most likely choose one the following two options: He can continue the shuffle in the same manner, however trying to 'strip' the deck.

A dealer strips a deck of cards by cutting off only a single card from the shoe at a time, letting them drop on each other. This brings about a reverse arrangement of the cards, thus not allowing players to benefit from any possible clumping advantages. The dealer may also merely modify his shuffling technique, thus randomizing the cards.
